• Is there a way to make the speaker silent while the headphone-jack keeps working? 12.04LTS

  The PC I am working on is in a loud environment. If I need sound, I use the headphone. On my own account this is easy: I mute the speaker in the sound-setting. I am not the only user, others use the Guest-session. And that's what this question about: Is it possible to turn off the speaker by default on a guest-session AND leave the headphone-output working? If yes, how can I fix it? I tried to loosen the speaker (hardware) connection but it is soldered to the mainboard. • Ubuntu 12.04LTS loads straight to terminal!! startx doesn't work!

  I have been using ubuntu 12.04LTS for last few months, and now suddenly something has happened to it. As a result, terminal opens on every start up when I login . Although, if i login as a guest, it works fine. I have already used startx command, and tried reinstalling the desktop as well but it doesn't work! If I use ctrl+alt+f9, terminal screen vanishes and a black screen appears, and then nothing happens after that. ctrl+alt+f1 takes me to the command prompt. I know similar questions have been asked here, but i could not find a solution for my laptop. Please help!!

  Good Morning; Title says most of it, uploaded a new song to my U1 Music (via my Android using the Files app). Which is an recently purchased iTunes .m4a song, so is non-DRM AAC. Uploaded fine, and browsing in U1 Music I see artist "Spray" fine, and then the Album, but attempting to open the Album to the song, returns: "'Unable to Parse '2006-12-12T08:00:00Z' as integer" Not sure if it's a problem with the file itself, or just how Android uploaded the file, as that is clearly a weird date code. All my other music is fine, no errors, and the service works awesome. My U1 account is under the e-mail address used for this question. Thanks!

Used TCP because the place I usually surf at seems to have the other ports blocked. My Vista laptop is able to connect to the router but I don't appear to be getting an IP address. I'm able to access my router's admin page, but I can't see the network at home. When I browse to Whatsmyip I see my home IP. • DHCP server with multiple interfaces on ubuntu, destroys default gateway

  I use Ubuntu, and I have many interfaces. eth0, which is my internet connection, and it gets its info from a DHCP-server totally outisde of my control. I then have eth1,eth2,eth3 and eth4 which I have created a DHCP-server for.(ISC DHCP-Server) It seems to work, and I even get an IP-address from the foreign DHCP-server on the internet facing interface. However, for some reason it seems my gateway for eth0 became screwed after I installed my local DHCP-server for eth1-eth4. (I think so because I got an IP for eth0, and I can ping other stuff on the local network, but I cannot get access to the internet). My eth0-specific info in /etc/network/interfaces: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.0.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.0.1.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 gateway 10.0.1.1 mtu 8192 auto eth2 iface eth2 inet static address 10.0.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.0.2.0 broadcast 10.0.2.255 gateway 10.0.2.1 mtu 8192 My /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server: INTERFACES="eth1 eth2 eth3 eth4" So why does my local DHCP-server fuck up the gateway for eth0, when I tell it not to listen to eth0? Anyone see the problem or what I can do to fix it? The problem seems indeed to be the gateways. "netstat -nr" gives: 0.0.0.0 --- 10.X.X.X ---- 0.0.0.0 --- UG 0 0 0 eth3 It should have been 0.0.0.0 129.2XX.X.X 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 So for some reason, my local DHCP-server overrides the gateway I get from the network DHCP. • How to tune down the Hyperic built-in postgresql database for a small setup

  We are testing out Hyperic 4.5.1 in a quite small environment for now. Currently there are just 1-5 agents and there probably won't be any more than 10-15. When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? I'm a software developer and don't have much experience with setting up servers and such though, so don't really know. Either way, what settings are appropriate for a small Hyperic setup like this? Why is Postfix attempting to connect to other machines as seen in the log? Mail is being sent properly, other than that, it appears all is good. Like I said it appears all mail is getting passed through, but I hate seeing errors and it is confusing me as to why it would be attempting to connect to other machines as seen in the log. • Heartbeat won't successfully start up resources from a cold boot when a failed node is present

  I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps crossover cable on eth1 and have access to an IP camera LAN on eth0. Now, let's say that one node is down and the remaining functional node is booting after having been shut down. The node that is still functioning won't start up heartbeat and provide access to the drbd resource from a cold boot. I have to manually restart heartbeat by sudo service heartbeat restart to get everything up and running. How can I get it to start fine from a cold start, when only one server is present?   I have a server running on Debian wheezy with MaraiDB and OwnCloud. Few days ago, I wanted to update the packages because of the OwnCloud updates but something went wrong. Usually in this case I'd probably try to remove and again install the problematic packages, but on a server which is used by different people it doesn't seem like a valid solution anymore.
